New To Vaping? 3 Tips For A Better E-Cigarette Experience
If you're looking for an alternative to cigarettes, electronic cigarette are a terrific choice. They don't smell, they're not messy, they don't leave burn marks in your clothes or your furniture, and they're allowed in many places that cigarettes are not allowed in. They're also an effective form of nicotine replacement. E-cigs are easy to use, but when you first begin using them, there is a bit of a learning curve. It's not quite as simple as just pulling a cigarette out of the pack and lighting up. Here are a few vaping tips that will help you get the most out of your new e-cig.
Don't Overfill Your Atomizer
Your atomizer contains a wick that's wrapped around a metal heating coil. When you add your e-liquid to the atomizer, the wick becomes saturated and the liquid makes contact with the heated coil, which is what produces the vapor when you puff on the e-cig. However, adding too much e-liquid when the wick is already saturated won't help you produce more vapor. In fact, the extra liquid can drop below the wick, blocking the bottom hole of the atomizer and restricting the airflow. This can make you think that the e-cig isn't functioning properly, but it's really just too much liquid.
If you hear a gurgling sound when you puff on the e-cigarette, that's a good sign that you've overfilled the atomizer. It's an easy fix – just pour some of the liquid back into the bottle and try again. You'll find that when there's enough liquid to saturate the wick, but not enough to block airflow, you'll produce far more vapor. It may take a few tries, but before long you'll get a good sense of how many drops if e-liquid the atomizer you're using needs.
Take Care of Your Battery
The battery inside your e-cigarette is a lithium-ion battery, similar to what you would find inside many common portable electronic devices, like cell phones, laptops, tablets, and digital cameras. It needs to be treated with the same care that you'd use for the batteries in any of these devices. Don't store it in any place where it will be exposed to high temperatures, throw it into a fire, or allow it to be crushed with something heavy. Trying to use a lithium-ion battery after it gets wet can cause a fire or an explosion. Keep it dry or dispose of it and get a new one if liquid gets spilled on it.
Some e-cig users try to modify their batteries to create a more powerful e-cig. This can be very dangerous and should not be attempted. Disassembling the battery can damage the gas exhaust vent and any other protective mechanism the battery possesses. Furthermore, don't attempt to use batteries that are missing the warning labels or manufacturer names. These batteries may be fake or modified and may be dangerous.
Experiment With Different E-Liquids
E-liquids come in a variety of different strengths, flavors, and concentrations, and it may take some experimenting to find what you like the best. For instance, the nicotine levels in e-liquids range from 0-36 mg/ml. If you're using liquid that has 12 mg/ml nicotine and find that you're still craving nicotine, you may need to move up to 18 or 24 mg/ml. On the other hand, you may find that 36 mg/ml is too much, and leaves you feeling jittery or ill. In that case, you should drop a few levels lower. Keep in mind that if you're going to puff continuously throughout the day, a lower level will probably provide you with plenty of nicotine. However, if you're only going to take a rare puff here and there, a higher level might work better for you.
Another thing to keep in mind is the base liquid. E-liquids are primarily made from propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin. Your liquid might be a mix of the two, or only one or the other. Both have their own advantages -- propylene glycol is better at providing a strong flavor and vegetable glycerin produces thicker vapor and may feel more like regular cigarette smoke in your throat. You may have to try a few different mixes before finding your perfect preference.
Experimenting with different atomizers, batteries, and liquids is part of the fun of vaping. You may find that you prefer different equipment or liquids at different times. Flavors in particular can be fun to switch out – you may want a coffee-flavored liquid to help you wake up in the morning, but prefer a fruity or chocolatey flavor later in the day. Have fun trying out the different possibilities and enjoy your e-cig experience.
